Rhythmic Battle of the Bands

Teacher Notes

About this resource

These resources are designed to support listening, performing and composing utilising the skills and knowledge developed in the previous units on Body Percussion in Body Beat Basics and Rhythmic Roots, and ChairDrumming in Drumming Legends and Session Drumming, however previous learning is not crucial as this project can still work in isolation.

This unit is designed to be flexible and can be taught over a period of 4 – 6 weeks – depending on the teaching time available. It includes the following class activities:

  • Working in percussion-based ‘bands’ over a series of lessons, pupils will prepare for a ‘Battle of the Bands’ style performance in the final lesson
  • Compose 1 x Body Percussion rhythm using simple notation (crotchets & quavers)
  • Compose 1 x ChairDrumming rhythm using simple notation (crotchets & quavers)
  • Mark the beat with the appropriate Body Percussion and ChairDrumming actions
  • Perform Body Percussion and ChairDrumming compositions confidently and in time following a simple graphic score
