Layering video & audio using an alternative program

If you’ve opted against exporting your film from within Cubase, then we suggest exporting the audio of your composition first (remember to mute the film sound if you’ve imported it) before using a 3rd-party program to combine it with your film clip.

If you’re using Windows then free programs like Clipchamp or Windows Movie Maker are capable of this.

If you’re using Mac then the free program iMovie is capable of this.

Alternatively, web-based program Online Video Cutter can achieve this.

For most programs, the following instructions apply:

  1. Import your chosen movie clip to the movie timeline. Clips are available to download in full here (189MB), or download clips individually here
  2. Import your composition audio file and place it underneath the video track
  3. Alter the audio volume levels of the film sounds and your composition if necessary
  4. Export the project as a single video file
