ChairDrumming - Dance Monkey

Sample Resources   ChairDrumming – Dance Monkey

About this sample resource

This sample resource is part the ChairDrumming resource collection.

ChairDrumming is great for developing rhythm, pulse and co-ordination, leading to the transferring of these skills to a drum kit.  It’s also lots of fun too and has been used widely in schools with pupils of all ages, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this playalong you will learn how to:

  • Use the video tutorial to master some of the fundamentals of drumming….using a chair!
  • Play along to one of our energetic chair drumming tracks of a popular classic whilst developing the basics of playing the drums ready to transfer to the real instrument
  • This ChairDrumming Playalong is for Dance Monkey by Tones And I

If you’re new to ChairDrumming we recommend viewing our Introduction video at the top of this page.

Dance Monkey – Tones And I
(SLOW)

  • No drums to begin with, so make sure you count carefully and come in in the correct place
  • The main groove of the song is made up of the kick on beats 1 and 3 with the snare on beats 2 and 4
  • Be ready to bring in the hi-hat in the chorus parts. Notice how it’s only played on the “+” beats, so it comes between every kick and snare.
  • Later on, the hi-hat is played on every beat.
