About this resource
Before you begin, you may wish to read Getting Going with LearnToPlay: Tuned Percussion which is part of our LearntoPlay Tuned Percussion Resources and LearnToPlay Tuned Percussion Songbook
- Listen to Happier by Marshmello
- Print off the Happier chord sheet and distribute to the class
- Listen to Happier again, following the chord sheet and the Playalong video
Either:
- Divide the class into groups and allocate each group a chord with each person playing ONE note of their given chord. The root note of the chord may be easier to follow (using the chords Em, G and C)
Or
- Where there are sufficient instruments for one each or one between two, ask pupils to choose ONE note from each chord – either the root OR one of the other notes from that chord (the chord sheet will help with this)
- Allow some time for practise to work out which notes should be played for each chord (using the chords Em, G, C and D).
- Play the Happier Playalong video again and ask everyone to follow the playalong video and to take notice of which notes they will be playing as the track plays
- Rehearse Happier individually, in a small group or as a whole class ensemble with each person/group/the class following their own part
- To begin with, play each note for 4 beats in time to the track
- Move on to the suggested rhythm patterns (if possible) whilst following the Playalong video
- If you would like to slow down the tempo, lower the speed of the playalong videos to 0.5 or 0.75 using the settings (small gear) at the bottom right hand side of the video
