Warm-Up

  • Either clap, stamp or tap these rhythm patterns, keeping in time with the beat
  • Repeat each rhythm 8 times before the notation fades on to the next rhythm

Rhythm Practice

Follow the video guide and play the note of A on your recorder in time with the displayed rhythms:

  • Pattern 1 – 2 minim beats = 1 … 3 …
  • Pattern 2 – 2 crotchet beats and a minim = 1 2 3 …
  • Pattern 3 – 1 minim beat and 2 crotchet beats = 1 … 3 4

Call & Response

  • Can you copy the rhythm pattern that your teacher plays using the note of A?
  • Working in pairs – can you copy the rhythm pattern that your partner plays using the note of A?
  • The backing track below is optional, but it’d be great to begin practicing with music in preparation for upcoming activities

Rhythm Performance

  • Using the same rhythms featured in the body percussion warm-up, can you now perform them using the note of A on recorder?
  • Repeat each rhythm several times before the visual cue moves on to the next rhythm
