LearnToCompose – Module 1

Lesson 5 - Adding Melody

About this resource

In this lesson, pupils transfer everything they have learned so far onto melodic instruments.

Not everyone needs to play a melodic instrument in this lesson. Some pupils will continue on percussion, keeping the pulse or playing rhythmic ideas, while others add melody using one note or one chord. Together, these parts combine to create a full class performance.

Pupils will:

  • apply CUE 1, CUE 2 and CUE 3 to melodic instruments
  • play using one note or one chord
  • experience how rhythm and melody work together
