About this resource

In this playalong you will learn how to:

Key Learning - Overview

Making Sounds – Know the Terminology Associated with the Instrument:

  • Guitars/ukuleles: fret, up/down neck, left/right hand, chord, barre, strum, down/up, string names, open string, mute, tab
  • Keyboards: white notes, black notes, note names, chord, finger numbers (1-5), root

Following Instructions: Musical Skills:

  • Respond to signals for start and stop
  • Feel the pulse
  • Mark the beat by counting

Playing the instrument:

  • Tap or clap the rhythm/strum pattern before transferring to instruments
  • Say the rhythms while counting 1 and 2 and etc
  • Count the beat aloud/in thinking voice when playing rhythms
  • Maintain a steady beat when playing rhythms

Performing with Others:

  • Find/stay on (or re-find) the beat when playing along with others
  • Maintain rhythms when playing with others
  • Follow instructions for beat, tempo and dynamic levels
  • Listen carefully to sounds made
  • Check technique and adjust as needed

Being a Musician:

  • Take turns as appropriate
  • Be respectful of others when turn-taking i.e. keeping still or silent Listen carefully to the ideas of others

  • Link rhythms played with written symbols

  • Recognise and follow the symbol for repeat
